Montgomery County Public Health District announced the arrival of the federal Test-to-Treat program intended to treat patients testing positive for COVID-19 on April 5.
President Joe Biden’s administration launched the program March 8 to allow for the distribution of oral antiviral pills, such as Paxlovid—developed by Pfizer—and Molnupiravir—developed by Merck. Paxlovid received a U.S. Food and Drug Administration emergency use authorization, or EUA, on Dec. 22, while Molnupiravir received its EUA on Dec. 23.
Test-to-Treat centers allow patients who bring a positive COVID-19 test to a qualifying center to receive an evaluation and a filled prescription if necessary. According to the MCPHD, home test results can also be brought in for an evaluation at a Test to Treat center.
The county’s office of emergency management, or OEM, closed its COVID-19 hotline March 31, and calls relating to COVID-19 will be taken by MCPH, according to an OEM announcement.
