In just the blink of an eye, Shaneika Humphrey turned a simple birthday present—a KitchenAid mixer—into a gourmet cupcake business named Cuppie Cakes and Sweets.
Humphrey opened the shop June. She said customers can request a combination of cupcake flavors—such as peanut butter cup or Italiano cream cheese—in small or large orders. Gluten-free cupcakes are also available.
While the shop originally focused on gourmet cupcakes and wedding cakes, it has since expanded its menu to offer candy apples, chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, cookies and cakepops.
“A lot of people would come in [to the shop] and ask mainly for cookies,” Humphrey said. “When I had my home business, gourmet apples would sell really well, so I also wanted to introduce [those treats] to the area.”
