4 Hip Chicks Boutique offers clothing, jewelry and home decor in Montgomery

Spring resident Deanna Holik founded 4 Hip Chicks Boutique following the two biggest losses of her life, the death of her father in 2008 and being laid off from her longtime job in the oil and gas industry. Holik said she had no retail experience, but she took a leap of faith during a difficult time in her life to transform her love of shopping into a business venture.

With the help of her daughter, Lauren Valden, Holik started by selling jeans, T-shirts and candles in a small booth in local hair salons. In 2009, Holik decided to open a storefront at the Waterpoint Shopping Center in Montgomery after taking a soul-searching drive.

“I came over the hill on Hwy. 105, and I saw the lake and this [shopping] center … and it kind of spoke to me,” Holik said. “It was scary [to make the career change], but my faith is big and I really felt like God presented this opportunity and this was the path he wanted me to go on.”

The business’ name, Holik said, is a tribute to the important women in her life.

“I originally named [4 Hip Chicks] after my mom, my two daughters and I,” Holik said. “[The name] also came from wanting to provide clothing from all generations and having a special place in my heart for the women in my life.”

Today the boutique offers jewelry, candles, home decor, accessories, gift items and contemporary clothing for women. Holik also opened Bliss Boutique and Gifts in the same shopping center in 2014, offering similar styles for younger patrons.

“Our customers have become our friends, so it’s kind of like having a personal shopper when they come here,” Holik said. “When we go to market, we think about what our [individual] customers like and what would look good on them.”

4 Hip Chicks’ winter clothing options range from dresses and sweaters to pants, blouses and socks. Also for the holiday season, the boutique features a variety of winter gift items, stocking stuffers, festive outifts and seasonal home decor.

In the future, Holik said she hopes to introduce online shopping to accommodate out-of-state customers. Overall, serving customers and forming personal relationships in the community has been the best part of owning 4 Hip Chicks Boutique, Holik said.

“You never know what people are going through in their lives,” she said. “We want to help however we can, whether it’s with a smile, a new outfit, a special bracelet that means something to them or even just a hug … we enjoy being there to help our customers.”
