Austin residents looking for a break from the city's summer heat will have to make reservations if they want to visit Barton Springs Pool after 8 a.m. starting on May 21.
The reservations are in place for two-hour increments until 10 p.m., when the pool closes. Visitors coming to the pool between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. will not need to make a reservation ahead of time.
The reservation system is intended to manage capacity at the pool "for the safety of staff and guests," the city of Austin said in a news release. No other aquatic facilities in the city require reservations.
The standard reservation fees will still be in effect, ranging from $2-$5 for residents and $4-$9 for non-residents. Season swim passes are also available.
