A nostalgic smile starts to form on Marcos Canchola's face as he looks around Pour House Pub in Austin.
The walls are limestone rocks, wooden chairs with Texas stars on the back and 34 draft beers to choose from while listening to the jukebox.
But the longtime Burnet Road establishment is closing down, temporarily at least, after one last celebration June 29 that will last until 2 a.m.
Argyle Residential has purchased the land occupied by Pour House Pub. The development company will tear down the existing structures to build a mixed-use building called Burnet Marketplace.
"I think that it will be great to have a new facility, slightly larger on the inside, more modern," said Canchola, Pour House Pub owner. "Although this building is fantastic, there are some limitations to it."
Pour House will reopen on the first floor of the new development. Canchola said he hopes the bar will remain closed no longer than a year-and-a-half.
The large heritage tree in the pub's patio area will be the centerpiece for a new, smaller patio, he said. There will also be a larger restroom area in the new location.
The building has stood since the late 1880s, Canchola said. Some of the structure may be repurposed to help maintain the pub's existing character, he said.
