The Fairmont Austin is a $370 million project that will have 1,048 rooms.[/caption]
Red River Street in front of the under-construction Fairmont Austin hotel will be closed in both directions from June 30 until July 5 while crews work on adding a pedestrian walkway and bridge.
The closures between Cesar Chavez and Third streets will occur from 9 p.m.-10 a.m Friday-Saturday and 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Saturday-Wednesday.
Work on the Fairmont's 33-foot elevated "canopy walk" will be occurring during the road closures. The $6 million project will give visitors a view of Waller Creek and connect the hotel to the second level of the Austin Convention Center once complete in mid-November.
The 1,048-room hotel, designed by Gensler, is slated to open Sept. 21. View photos of the hotel's "topping out" ceremony here.
The bridge is slated to be open in mid-November.
