From 2000 to 2010, the district's population grew by more than 35 percent, the city of Austin reports. The district has nearly 55,000 registered voters and the highest percentage of home ownership among all city districts—more than 60 percent, according to city data.
The area's median annual household income is the second-highest compared with Austin's other districts, and its poverty rate is the lowest, according to 2012 U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Precinct 8 has the second-largest percentage of white residents among city districts at 69.7 percent, compared with 78.3 percent in District 10.
About 5 percent of the district's population consists of noncitizens, according to city data.
