Austinites will celebrate the emancipation of Texas slaves June 21.
Some detours will be necessary to accommodate the Juneteenth Historical Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. June 21. The parade will wind through east Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Chicon Street and Rosewood Street, followed by music and community activities in Rosewood Park.
"This is the celebration of our freedom," said Tami Johnson, Juneteenth committee chairwoman. "It's a big day for African-Americans."
Johnson said there will be three stages for entertainment: one with hip-hop music, the next with R&B and a third with speaker Pastor Kevin Brown.
