The Austin City Council postponed action Feb. 9 on a deal that would extend weekend Red Line rail service, instead calling for further negotiations.
The city has been working on a $2.2 million proposal with Capital Metro to extend operating hours to midnight on Friday and to offer service from 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.
Councilman Chris Riley suggested further review of the proposal and asked for council to consider keeping the rail line open until 2 a.m. to accommodate closing time for most establishments in the entertainment district.
"I have heard from a number of folks that 2 a.m. is closing time, not midnight," Riley said.
