After more than 11,000 Travis County voters went to the polls Dec. 15, total turnout in the Dec. 15 runoff election was 54,070 voters, or 9.62%.
Much of the county had just one school board race on the budget: the Austin ISD Place 8 at-large seat, which Noelita Lugo won over Leticia Moreno Caballero.
Low turnout is typical in December runoff elections in Austin. Some races occur only in certain districts within the city, and there are no statewide or federal races at the top of the ballot to drive turnout.
In 2018, 19,816 total votes were cast in three City Council races, and 28,670 were cast in the AISD at-large race.
