Here's when and where to find your child's 2026 STAAR results

Where are results posted?

Families can find individual STAAR results at texasassessment.gov, the portal for state-administered exams, including the STAAR and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System.

Each Texas student receives a unique access code for their results. Families can find the code on the first page of their child’s report card or contact their school, according to the TEA.

The state released an overview of high school STAAR results on its website June 10. Charts mapping the trajectory of end-of-course results are available here, and more detailed data for regions, districts and individual school campuses are posted to the state research portal.

STAAR results for grades 3-8 will be posted June 16, per the TEA.

What is the STAAR?

The STAAR was first administered in 2012, state records show.

Texas public school students in third through 12th grade take the exam each spring, and it is used to measure student progress and teacher performance. The accountability ratings assigned to schools each year are largely based on how students perform on the STAAR.

The TEA is scheduled to release district- and campus-level accountability ratings for the 2025-26 school year in August. If a district or individual school earns a failing grade for several years in a row, the state has the authority to take control of the district.

How does the test work?

Each exam is scored using the following categories: did not meet grade level, approaches grade level, meets grade level and masters grade level. Students approaching grade level expectations are considered to have passed the test, while those meeting their grade level are considered proficient in that subject.

Under state law, students who don’t meet the standards are expected to receive accelerated instruction in the following school year, which can include small-group tutoring and other tools.

What’s next?

Texas students will continue taking the STAAR next school year. Beginning in fall 2027, students will take three shorter tests at the beginning, middle and end of the year, Community Impact previously reported.

State lawmakers approved the new assessment system in September, after months of debate over the best way to rework the highly criticized STAAR. Parents and educators have said that the current exams cause undue stress for students and do not help teachers improve instruction throughout the school year.

In the 2027-28 school year, students will be given a beginning-of-year assessment in late August or September, a mid-year assessment in January or February, and an end-of-year assessment in May. The new program will be known as the Student Success Tool, according to the TEA.
