The Salty is celebrating half a decade of business at its Austin flagship on South Congress avenue. Patrons can stop by to celebrate the anniversary in October with a limited-time doughnut and coffee special.
The context
The doughnut shop was founded by Amanda Pizarro and her husband Andy Rodriguez in 2015. The pair took a pause from school to buy a vintage camper and lease a commissary kitchen, according to The Salty website. Pizarro and Rodriguez then opened their pop up in Miami, Florida before launching their first brick and mortar.
The Salty now has locations in Georgia, North Carolina, Colorado, Tennessee and Florida. The Salty opened its second Austin location at Domain Northside in June 2025, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
Craving donuts?
The Salty offers traditional glazed doughnut and specialty options like the guava and cheese. The fruit-forward treat is made with 24 hour brioche, filled with fresh guava and cream cheese and topped with pastelito pastry pieces.
Other offerings include the barbecue pork rib kolache, which is made with Terry Black’s chopped pork ribs. The kolache also features barbecue sauce and pickled jalapenos baked into The Salty’s 24 hour brioche.
The drink menu
The doughnut shop also serves a range of drinks, including a maple brown sugar cold brew, cinnamon cereal milk latte, vanilla bean matcha latte and brown sugar chai latte.
The celebration
Locals can head to The Salty’s South Congress spot on Oct. 13 for a doughnut and coffee deal. Customers can get a glazed donut and coffee for $5 from open until 5 p.m., according to a news release.
