The Southern fine dining restaurant Olamaie will close July 19 after 12 years in business in downtown Austin.
The details
The restaurant announced the closure in a July 8 social media post, thanking guests, staff and purveyors and encouraging diners to visit before the final day of service. It did not give a reason for the closure.
"Gratitude is the feeling that comes forward overwhelmingly," the post said.
Located at 1610 San Antonio St., Austin, Olamaie is one of only seven Austin restaurants to hold a Michelin star, a distinction it earned in the guide's inaugural 2024 Texas edition and retained in 2025, according to the Michelin Guide.
Olamaie is fully booked for reservations through its final night, but the restaurant said in a follow-up social media post that a waitlist is available on OpenTable and limited bar seating is offered nightly. Biscuit production is reserved for seated guests, and to-go biscuit orders are no longer available.
"Y'all are really showing up," the restaurant said in the post, thanking Austin diners for the send-off.
The background
Founder and executive chef Michael Fojtasek opened Olamaie in August 2014 following a series of pop-up dinners, according to the restaurant's website.
Named after his grandmother, mother and daughter, the farm-to-table restaurant became known for contemporary Southern cuisine built on produce from local farms and meat from Texas ranchers—and for its buttermilk biscuits, served warm with whipped honey butter and sea salt, according to the Michelin Guide.
Dinner is served as a four-course menu for $175 per person, as stated on the restaurant’s website.
Fojtasek was a James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Southwest in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and one of Food & Wine magazine's Best New Chefs in 2015, according to the restaurant's website. Chef de cuisine Amanda Turner, a James Beard semifinalist for Emerging Chef in 2022, leads the kitchen.
Olamaie is part of MaieB Hospitality, Fojtasek's Austin-based restaurant group. Steakhouse Maie Day, which opened inside the South Congress Hotel in May 2022, as Community Impact previously reported, closed May 31 alongside the hotel, the restaurant announced on social media.
Little Ola's Biscuits—a takeout spin-off that opened in 2021—served its final biscuit in Wells Branch on Dec. 24, 2024, citing construction on its building.
Gimme Burger, the group's burger stand at Butler Pitch & Putt, remains open daily from noon to 8 p.m. and serves breakfast sandwiches from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday, according to the golf course’s website.
What's next
Olamaie will continue dinner service Wednesday through Sunday, 5-9 p.m., through its final night July 19, per its website. Diners without reservations can join the OpenTable waitlist or try for limited bar seating.
Community Impact has reached out to Olamaie for details regarding the closure and future plans and will update this story.
