The Central Texas Food Bank will hold six drive-thru food distributions in May at four different locations around the area.
At these events, Austin-area residents who are facing food insecurity can drive to the sites to receive a box containing nonperishable items such as peanut butter, brown rice and canned fruit as well as a box containing either frozen food items or a bag of produce.
The food bank is asking that each household only send one person to the events, and that all attendees come in vehicles—there will be no walk-up distribution—to adhere to social distancing requirements.
Volunteers are also needed for the events, which began in April to help those who are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. At an April 4 event held at Nelson Field in Northeast Austin, the food bank distributed more than 7,000 pounds of food to more than 1,500 households.
