Hello, Community Impact readers! I am so excited to introduce myself as the new editor of the Central Austin edition of this newspaper, and I’m truly looking forward to reporting on stories in your neighborhoods that you will find informative and useful. I am a native Mainer who recently moved to Austin (I know, I know, another northern invader). Since the move, I’ve been doing my best to learn as much as possible about my new hometown. One thing I found quickly is that Texans vote early (as the first state to hold primaries) and vote often (with as many as six election days per year). Next up are May elections. Some Travis County residents will vote for candidates in local races on May 5, then runoff elections will be held on May 22 to decide some primary races. What are primary runoff elections? According to Texas law, when no candidate in a race receives more than 50 percent of the vote in March, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff in May. See you at the polls, and happy voting!
