Austin-Bergstrom International Airport faced its busiest year ever in 2022, according to data released by ABIA on Feb. 14.
The year’s total passenger count was approximately 21.1 million passengers, about 55% more than 2021. May was the busiest month of the year, with approximately 2.1 million passengers, an 83% increase from May 2021, data showed.
In 2022, the total number of passengers who flew out of the Barbara Jordan Terminal was 20.5 million, up approximately 56% from 2021. The total number of passengers from the South Terminal in 2022 was approximately 545,400, an increase of about 23% from 2021, data showed.
Southwest Airlines was the busiest airline for ABIA in 2022, with 8 million passengers, an approximate 73% increase from 2021, according to the data. Two new airlines were brought to the airport last year, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. The airport offered eight new nonstop destinations and reinstated two.
