Families with incoming kindergartners to Leander ISD will be able to register Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Registration also is open to children who qualify for the district’s free pre-kindergarten program and will be divided among the elementary campuses. Registration can be completed at any of the elementary schools regardless of where the student is zoned. Any child who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, meets immunization requirements and lives in Leander ISD district is eligible to attend the district’s full-day kindergarten program. For the district’s free, half-day pre-kindergarten program, children must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, meet immunization requirements, live in Leander ISD and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Be unable to speak and comprehend English
- Is homeless
- Has a parent or official guardian who is an active-duty member of the armed forces of the United States or who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
- Has been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
- Is eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program due to limited family income
