Yellow House Foundation gets green light for construction in Leander

After nearly shutting down, Yellow House Foundation—a nonprofit organization focused on recovery services—will be moving forward with construction on its new building in Leander.

Yellow House Foundation has been serving Williamson, Travis and Bell counties since 1983 by holding weekly meetings to help people with alcohol and substance abuse recovery. A few recovery groups include Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Alateen, Al-Anon and Nicotine Anonymous.

Due to Cedar Park’s upcoming Bell District development, YHF lost its location of 18 years, the yellow house that sits in the cul-de-sac located at 120 Commercial Parkway, Cedar Park. With help from the city, the organization moved into the old Mister Car Wash building at 111 N. Bell Blvd., Cedar Park, which has also been claimed for future development.

Although Cedar Park development has caused YHF to go through a series of relocations, the organization’s head of fundraising, Hal Cromwell, said the city has been “great at every turn.”

Last year, YHF still needed to raise $1.1 million of the total $2.1 million cost to build a new location. Through the help of a loan, the organization will be able to pay the rest of the project’s cost. Cromwell said the organization still needs donations because repaying the loan will be difficult.

“We’ve qualified for a loan,” he said. “But we still would like help in our immediate expenses ... and any additional money would help us lower our payment, which would lower our stress level going forward.”

YHF’s permanent building will be at 804 Leander Drive. The land has been cleared for construction.

Until construction is complete, YHF will be holding meetings at 151 N. Bell Blvd., Cedar Park.
