Updated Feb. 18 at 3:39 p.m. Candidate filing for Leander City Council closed Feb. 15 with six candidates in the running: Kathryn Pantalion-Parker and Laura Lantrip for Place 1, Becki Ross and Jason Shaw for Place 3, and incumbent Jeff Seiler and Chris Czernek for Place 5. Write-in candidates must declare candidacy by Feb. 19 at 5 p.m., according to the city of Leander. Write-in candidates will not be able to participate in the ballot drawing that takes place Feb. 22, which will determine the order of candidate names on the ballot. Those are the seats of Andrea Navarrette, Shanan Shepherd and Jeff Seiler, respectively. Shepherd announced on Facebook Jan. 14 that she would not be running for re-election. Navarrette announced Jan. 17 on Facebook that she would not be seeking re-election as well. Election day is May 4. Residents interested in running for election may file to run Jan. 16-Feb. 15.
