Rock 'N' Rides event coming Feb. 28–March 1

Rouse High School is preparing to host a battle of the bands on Feb. 28 and a car show on March 1 to support the campus's band program.

When the Rouse High School Band Booster Club discussed the need to purchase a new band trailer, one parent suggested a car show fundraiser and another parent suggested a battle of the bands. Booster club members chose to try both, President Rosanne Bonnet said.

Audiences can pay $5 to watch the Friday evening band competition in the auditorium. The Saturday car show is free for viewers, she said.

On Friday from 7–10 p.m., at least five bands with members 21 and younger will compete for awards. The entrance fee is $50 with cash prizes for first and second place. Local businesses also donated prizes such as a guitar and recording studio time, Bonnet said.

"Currently we are looking for more bands," she said.

Saturday's show from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. will feature more than 275 antique and unique cars from Texas clubs. Bonnet said the show will also include a bounce house, food, prizes and live music from local performers, including the two leading bands from Friday night. Admission is free, though guests entering a featured car pay $20, she said.

Bonnet said she and other band directors and booster club organizers hope funds raised from Rock 'N' Rides will help with the school band's vehicle.

"Our current trailer has many repair needs," she said. "We've been having to rent a trailer right now because ours is in such bad shape."
