BirthCo. Chiropractic + Wellness shapes nurturing space for families to receive care

From offering services for all family members to playing with babies during mothers’ appointments, BirthCo. Chiropractic + Wellness cultivates a supportive space for mothers and children to receive care for multiple conditions in one session.

The backstory

Founder Katherine Melot, who has a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, was first introduced to the chiropractic world in her childhood when her brother saw positive results from chiropractic treatment for his epilepsy.

“They started seeing this chiropractor...and my brother was able to get off all his medications and stopped having seizures within about six months of that,” Melot said. “I was around 10 years old at the time. I knew immediately that I wanted to do that for other families.”

She was also inspired to bridge the education and support gap she noticed between mothers and their providers.

“We've got snacks. We've got extra hands to hold babies. We can take breaks as needed,” Melot said. “It's a very flexible style of environment for moms to come to to get some of the services that they might not be able to get otherwise because they don't have child care or they don't have the time to jump to four different places to get these four different services.”

What they offer

The business offers four core services: chiropractic care, core and pelvic floor rehabilitation, massage therapy, and hormone balancing. Massages include prenatal massage, postnatal massage, Swedish massage, lymphatic flow massage, deep tissue massage and labor prep massage.

While the business has a primary focus on prenatal and pediatric care, Melot said all family members are welcome to seek care at the centers.

Melot has a memory bank of all her interactions with patients. She said some patients now find daily relief and others are able to accomplish activities previously halted by their pain.

She recalls one full-circle moment when a patient decided to attend massage school after feeling the impact from the center's services for over a year.

“She came back and she said, ‘Hey, I just signed up for massage school because you guys, your services and your environment and the relationships that I built here, they impacted me so positively that I decided I want to do that for other people,’” Melot said.

With five locations across Austin and surrounding areas, Melot hopes to continue growing the company to provide resources for patients beyond Central Texas by opening locations throughout the U.S.

“We've extended very quickly and I feel passionate that every mom should have access to the services that we offer to the community that we've built and my goal would be that we could grow BirthCo. to be all over the U.S. and maybe even past that,” Melot said.
