California native Mike Varozza has been swimming both competitively and recreationally for most of his life.
His swimming career began when he attended Texas A&M University on an athletic scholarship. Later, he went go on to compete for The University of Texas’ record-breaking Longhorn Aquatics team.
In 2010, Varozza began teaching swimming lessons to kids at his local country club pool, and Waterloo Swimming was born. Each summer, his program grew until eventually, Varozza and his wife, Gwyn Varozza, opened the Waterloo Swimming facility in June 2016.
With two facilities in Northwest and Central Austin, Waterloo Swimming provides year-round lessons, fitness classes and competitive swimming for all ages. The northwest location has one of Austin's five Olympic-size pools where its USA Swim Team trains, Varozza said.
