Mike and Gwyn Varozza, owners of
Waterloo Swim School, broke ground in mid-August on a 29,000-square-foot swimming training facility.
The facility will open in April or May and is located at 12332 N. RM 620 between Bush’s Chicken and Caliber Collision, Mike said.
Mike said the facility will have two pools. The first is a heated pool for swim classes, water aerobics and physical therapy. The second is an Olympic-sized pool for competitive swimming, stroke lessons and water polo.
“There are few Olympic-sized pools in the area,” Mike said, adding several area high schools have expressed interest in using the new facility.
The new facility will also have locker rooms, an air-conditioned viewing room for parents, and family changing rooms and restrooms.
The Varozzas opened Waterloo Swim School in 2010 and the business has been growing ever since, Mike said. The school offers swim classes for children and adults of all experience levels as well as competitive swimming.
“We had customers asking, ‘Can you do this year-round?’” Mike said.
Swim classes are normally held at the Spicewood pool in the Balcones Country Club in Northwest Austin, but the pool is not heated and can only be used during the summer months, he said.
