Filing period for mayor, 2 College Station City Council seats open

College Station voters will have the opportunity to elect a mayor and two City Council members this November.

Up for election

The candidate filing period for College Station's November general election is underway and ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 17.

Three candidates have filed for three positions on the ballot, according to the city.

All positions are four-year terms, which will end November 2030.

• Mayor:
  • No candidates filed as of July 20
  • Currently held by Mayor John Nichols, who is completing his first term and has not filed for reelection
• City Council Place 1:
  • Mark Smith, incumbent
  • Howard Mayne
• City Council Place 2:
  • Chandler Arden
  • Currently held by Mayor Pro-Tem William Wright, who is completing his first term and has not filed for reelection

Looking ahead

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Aug. 17 to apply. They may pick up an application packet in the city secretary's office at College Station City Hall during regular business hours.

To be eligible, candidates must be 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen, a qualified Texas voter and a College Station resident for at least one year.

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 5 and Election Day is Nov. 3.

The city of Bryan also has its mayor and places two and three City Council members up for election this November.
