Bryan ISD superintendent on shortlist for Texas Superintendent of the Year

Bryan ISD Superintendent Ginger Carrabine has been nominated for the Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year award.

According to the nominations page, Carrabine was chosen because of her “authenticity, humility, and deep sense of calling to education, reflected in the way she sees herself in her students and remains passionately committed to their success.” The nomination also highlighted her education at the University of Houston and her longevity with BISD, previously acting as deputy superintendent and chief of staff.

Under Carrabine’s leadership, BISD started its Virtual Academy program, which allows students from grades 3-12 to learn online in a more flexible environment. As previously reported by Community Impact, the academy received over 230 applications in 2026, with over 130 students accepted.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Houston on Oct. 10 at the txEDCON conference, which is the largest gathering of public school educators in Texas, according to the event's website. Carrabine is among five superintendent finalists who represent districts throughout the state.
