Brazos County approves additional $1M for admin, office building projects

Brazos County Commissioners Court approved more than $1 million in additional funds for contingency and utility work for the Brazos County administration building and road and office building renovation projects during the Sept. 15 meeting.

In a nutshell

As previously reported by Community Impact, the court approved $20 million for additional repairs to county buildings in July. The unanimous vote included projects for the county courthouse annex building and various professional services.

The projects add:

• $523,722 for owner contingency for the administration building

• $486,600 for additional utility work for the road and office building repairs

According to agenda material, the administration building contingency is to help the work remain uninterrupted by unforeseen circumstances, and any unused funds would be returned to the county.

The road and office building renovations project is now expected to be extended by 60 days because the contractor needs to separate the infrastructure for a safer turnaround, according to agenda material. The road and bridge office building, old ag extension office, gas shack and pumps, and water filling station are connected through intertwined utility infrastructure.

Trevor Lansdown, director of project management for Brazos County, said the projects are moving forward, but need a little more money to continue without hiccups.

After some questioning from commissioners Bentley Nettles and Fred Brown about the use of the funds, the court unanimously approved both change orders. The county estimates both projects will be completed sometime in 2027.
