The history
David Gardner — who founded the family-owned business in 1983 — said the store has grown significantly since moving into its current building about 20 years ago.
“In 20 years, though, we’ve grown 450%,” Gardner said. “It didn’t go up 100% at one time, it just slowly built.”
The business now has more than 40 employees. In its infancy, the business began with Gardner, his wife Julia Gardner and one other employee.

“When we moved in here, I was the only artist,” Gardner said. “Now we have four amazing artists.”
About the project
As the business grew, Gardner said the store needed more room for both its design work and customer interactions. Jewelry purchases can be personal and private, he said, and busy days sometimes left customers having conversations about significant purchases only a few feet from other shoppers.
According to the jeweler’s website, the remodel began in November 2024, with demolition underway by February 2025. State filings say the remodel cost $3 million and was completed early this year.
The remodel has allowed David Gardner’s Jewelers to expand its design studio and create more private areas for customers. The store also incorporates technology such as computer-aided design and 3D printers.
Gardner said technology has allowed the company’s jewelers to create increasingly intricate pieces while maintaining the craftsmanship at the center of the business.
The business also has expanded its showroom and dedicated spaces for brands and services, including Rolex.

College Station City Council member William Wright praised the Gardners for putting service to others first.
“This business is synonymous with philanthropy,” he said. “There is not one thing that I’ve been to that y’all have not donated something.”
Before you go
Gardner said the most rewarding part of his work remains creating pieces that carry personal meaning. He said he’s designed jewelry inspired by clients’ relationships and stories, including a wedding band based on the biblical concept of “three strands.” He also designed a piece for former first lady Barbara Bush, according to the business’s website.
