West U receives federal funding for pedestrian safety plan

Mayor Susan Sample said in a statement that pedestrian mobility has been a high priority for City Council.

“Last year, we installed new signs and restriped crosswalks at our major intersections, enhancing pedestrian visibility,” Sample said. “This grant demonstrates this council’s dedication to safety and will build upon our ongoing pedestrian and traffic safety studies.”

The completed Safety Action Plan will provide a framework for making West U a more walkable community, Sample said.

Completing the plan is estimated to take approximately 12 months and would position the city to qualify for grant funding opportunities for future improvements, city officials said.
