West University Place residents interested in providing feedback to city staff and consultants regarding different portions of the city's ongoing Facilities Master Plan are invited to three upcoming town hall meetings. All meetings will be held at West U's Community Building Auditorium located at 6104 Auden St., Houston.
- New Building Programming Town Hall Meeting, June 4, 6:30 p.m. This meeting will focus on desired senior service and library programs.
- Urban Planning Concept Review Town Hall Meeting, June 18, 6:30 p.m. This meeting will review design concepts on how the buildings, gardens, paths and roads will work together to create the look and feel of a street, or what's also referred to as urban streetscape.
- City Council Urban Planning Workshop, June 24, 7 p.m. This meeting is when the city's design team will present urban planning concepts for West U City Council to review and consider.
Long story short
City officials are working on the community engagement portion of the plan as part of Phase 2 of the project. The goal, according to the project's website, is to involve community feedback while configuring the layout for the city's civic center, which includes a community building, senior center and library.
The community feedback will also provide the city consultant with information when determining how to efficiently use green space and parking in the planning process. Phase 2 will also evaluate the city's recreation center to optimize existing space and align the facility with existing and future community recreational needs, which was reiterated by City Manager Dave Beach at the May 14 town hall.
