Katy ISD approves nearly $41.02M construction contract for 49th elementary school
Katy ISD is preparing to begin construction on its 49th elementary school this year.
At a Feb. 23 meeting, the Katy ISD board of trustees approved a nearly $41.02 million construction agreement with Drymalla Construction Company for the construction of a new elementary school at Pitts Road and Sunterra Point Drive on the district’s northwest side.
6 new, coming soon and renovated stores in The Woodlands Mall
Several new stores and kiosks have opened at The Woodlands Mall at 1201 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, so far this year, and several more are planning to open or see renovations this year, according to mall management. General Manager Ted Harris provided several updates to Community Impact in early March.

The Best Stop Cajun Market brings a taste of Louisiana to Katy
Walking into The Best Stop Cajun Market feels like strolling through your local grocery store in Louisiana. The shelves are lined with spices, stuffed meats are displayed in fridges, and staff members are packaging fresh boudin and chicken cracklings for customers.
It helps that the majority of staff members are from Louisiana, Marketing Manager Stacy Jacobs said.
The Cajun market was originally established in Scott, Louisiana, nearly 40 years ago, and has since established five other locations, with the Katy location opening in December 2023.
Toro District estimated to have $34B economic impact in Cypress region
An 83-acre sports and entertainment hub called the Toro District is coming to the Bridgeland community by 2029 as part of a public-private partnership between the Houston Texans, Howard Hughes Communities and Harris County.
The Texans will construct a 175,000-square-foot headquarters with training facilities, administrative space and a fieldhouse, officials announced Feb. 25. Texans President Mike Tomon told Community Impact the NFL franchise has been looking to build an off-site headquarters for years, moving non-gameday operations from NRG Stadium in Houston’s Inner Loop.
Tomball moves to lock down Main Street property next to city information center
Tomball City Council moved March 2 to ratify a contract to purchase property at 213 W. Main St., a move city officials said would give Tomball control of the fully connected building next to its community and information center.
During discussion, officials said the building is directly connected to the city’s community and information center and was formerly occupied by “Over 2B,” saying the purchase would allow “the entire building to be able to be used.”
According to the agenda packet, the item was brought forward by the city manager’s office with a recommendation for approval, and states the purchase would be funded through the city’s fund balance rather than an already designated budget line.
