Harris County to host meeting as construction nears on Meyergrove detention basins

The Harris County Flood Control District will host a virtual community meeting Aug. 17 as construction nears on two new detention basins being planned along Brays Bayou near Meyerland.

The overview

The Meyergrove Detention Basin project is a flood-control project aimed at reducing flooding along Brays Bayou. The first of the two planned basins will be located on a 7.5-acre site just inside Loop 610 between the bayou and North Braeswood Boulevard, at a site formerly occupied by Meyergrove Apartments, according to HCFCD officials. The second basin will be located on a smaller site in the median between North and South Braeswood Boulevard, and between the railroad crossing and Linkwood Drive. Construction is expected to begin this fall.

The backstory

The project was first announced in March 2022, following an allocation of just under $10 million in federal funds, Community Impact previously reported. The project will also be funded in part by the HCFCD's 2018 bond program.

What to expect

The virtual meeting will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 17. Interested individuals can join online by following this link and can learn more about the overall project here. The meeting is being held to inform residents about the project’s status, share information and gather important community input, according to the HCFCD. It will include a presentation and a moderated Q&A session with project team members.
