Looking for something to do around town this month? Houston, Bellaire and West University Place are hosting a lineup of events celebrating music, culture, food and community.
From Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations and the Houston Jazz Festival to the popular Bellaire Foodie Fest, here are six events to check out in September and early October.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Miller Outdoor Theatre begins its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a trio of performances honoring the music, dance and traditions of Latin American culture. Performers across the month will include Mariachi Herencia de Mexico and Noche Caliente. The event will conclude with the 44th Annual Día de la Hispanidad.
Houston Jazz Festival
Rooted in the timeless spirit of New Orleans, the NOLA Resistance Quintet will carry forward the legacy of jazz icons such as Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet. The evening will also feature masterworks by acclaimed Texas visual artist John Alexander.
SW Houston Rotary Wine Dinner
Guests at this event will enjoy a carefully curated multi-course menu paired with a selection of wines at the Braeburn Country Club. Ticket costs will benefit the Willbern Heritage Scholarship Foundation. Expect to hear from past scholarship winners and participate in a live auction.
Tibetan Meditation Workshop
Officials with the Asia Society Texas will conduct a morning of meditation with Alejandro Chaoul. The session will consist of a guided meditation where Chaoul will lead guests in Tibetan mind-body-spirit practices. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats and cushions.
Bellaire Foodie Fest
This event, hosted by the Bellaire Business Association, will grant residents access to unlimited food samplings, drinks, live entertainment and cooking demonstrations. Funds from the event will benefit the city’s police and fire foundations.

National Night Out
The West University Place community block party at Colonial Park is designed to celebrate community togetherness and safety. Guests can witness a display of emergency vehicles up close, as well as enjoy kids' activities, a music zone, balloon artists and a face painting corner. Complimentary snow cones will also be available for the first 150 attendees.
