In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the city of Bellaire will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on that date with appearances from community leaders and federal officials.

The dedication ceremony will take place at the World Trade Center I-Beam memorial installed between the Bellaire Fire Station and the Bellaire City Library at 5101 Jessamine St., Bellaire, officials confirmed.
The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and honor the lives lost in the 9/11 attacks, as well as recognize the first responders who served on that day, victims’ families and survivors.
Key speakers scheduled to give formal remarks at the event include Mayor Gus Pappas, Fire Chief Davis Farquhar and U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, according to released information.
Some context
The outdoor memorial site depicts an 11-foot portion of a steel I-beam from the World Trade Center. It was donated to the city of Bellaire in 2017 by the Rubenstein Family Foundation and the Houston Fire Museum, per the city website.
Through contributions from the Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club, Piper Whitney Construction and other stakeholders, the World Trade Center I-Beam memorial was erected to allow members of the public to touch, feel and reflect upon the events of 9/11.
The memorial, combined with the upcoming remembrance ceremony, will stand as a testament to and in acknowledgement of the nation’s enduring resilience after 25 years, officials said.
