With three existing locations in the Heights, Montrose and Spring Branch areas, Japanese sushi restaurant Handies Douzo is expanding once again with a new space located at 3908 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, officials confirmed via email.
Craving Japanese fare?
Coined as Texas’ first hand roll-focused sushi bar, Handies Douzo specializes in made-to-order hand rolls sourced from premium ingredients.
Its streamlined menu offers guests a variety of hand rolls that can be ordered individually or in sets of three, four and five. Specialty rolls include the Spicy Hotate, Masutoro and A5 Wagyu, according to its online menu.
The bar also serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages like its dry, yet earthy Onikoroshi Demon Slayer sake and vibrant Melon Cream Soda.
Upon ordering in-person, guests are able to watch the preparation and creation of their meal in an interactive counter experience that highlights the meticulous artistry of hand roll making, officials said.
Meet the team
Handies Douzo is one of seven chef-driven concepts brought to fruition by restaurant group Duckstache Hospitality, which seeks to reinvent traditional Japanese cuisine through innovative culinary techniques, design-forward spaces and modern aesthetics, officials said.
The group was established in 2019 by co-founder chefs Daniel Lee and Patrick Pham, along with their business partner and CFO C.J. Short. As a trio, they have gone on to open several different restaurant locations from their concept pool across the city of Houston and Dubai, per its website.
Duckstache Hospitality’s other dining concepts include Aiko, Kokoro Sushi & Yakitori, Kokoro Hand Roll & Sushi Bar, Bar Doko, Doko and Himari.
Looking ahead
As of Sept. 1, officials said the anticipated grand opening date for Handies Douzo’s upcoming Bellaire location is sometime later this year or early 2027.
Construction is slated to begin in late September.
