League City officials approved a combined $1 million for water infrastructure improvements, including water plants on the city’s central and east sides.
What happened?
League City City Council voted unanimously at its Aug. 25 meeting to award an $860,000 contract to Houston-based McDonald Municipal & Industrial for upgrades to Meadowbend, Walker Street and 3rd Street water plants.
Separately, City Council awarded a $170,000 contract to Dallas-based Birkhoff, Hendricks & Carter, L.L.P. to replace Dove Meadows Lift Station No. 1 and No. 2.
About the project
Water plant upgrades involve installing new controls and replacing booster pumps, disinfection systems, conduit and wiring, according to city documents.
The lift stations contract will fulfill the project’s planning stages, including design, bidding, surveying, geotechnical investigations and land acquisition services, according to city documents.
Why it matters
The city’s master plans show League City is facing significant water supply and infrastructure challenges to meet future demands, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
League City’s population is expected to continue to grow at an approximate rate of 2.5% over the next 10 years and more than double by the anticipated 2040 buildout year.
Looking ahead
Both projects are anticipated to be completed by spring 2027, according to city documents.
