FEMA opens disaster resource centers to serve Greater Houston area 1 month after Beryl

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced on Aug. 9 two disaster resource centers are open to provide one-on-one aid for individuals and business owners who have already filed or want to file claims as a result of natural disasters that struck the Greater Houston from April 26 to June 5 as well as Hurricane Beryl on July 8.

What you need to know

The two centers will provide claim help for residents of Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jasper, Jackson, Jefferson, Liberty, Orange, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Polk, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, Walker, Waller and Wharton counties. The locations are:

Matagorda County

• Palacios Education Pavilion: 693 S. Bay Blvd., Palacios

Montgomery County

• Lone Star Convention Center: 9055 Airport Road, Conroe

Each center will provide representatives from FEMA as well as the U.S. Small Business Administration and other entities to provide financial assistance for residents and business owners. The centers will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday until the majority of claims are processed.

The centers will accept claims from storms that began impacting the region in April, including:

• April-May regional flooding
• May 16 derecho
• Hurricane Beryl

If individuals have not yet filed a claim for assistance, a claim can still be made online or in person at one of FEMA's resource locations.
