Lone Star College System hired Shantha Stokes as the first associate vice chancellor of mental health and wellness as well as the chief mental health officer, effective as of June 16, according to a June 24 news release.
What to know
Stokes holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University and is an alumna of the University of Iowa. Previously, Stokes served as the counseling center director and interim assistant vice president of student affairs for health and wellness at Sam Houston State University. Stokes also led the Steve Fund Equity in Mental Health Initiative as well as the Collaborative for Wellbeing in Texas Higher Education across the institution, according to the news release.
Stokes is passionate about addressing the mental health needs of students through collaboration, innovation and equity, according to the news release.
