Clear Creek ISD's board to vote on exception to House Bill 3 at workshop

Clear Creek ISD’s board of trustees will consider a good cause exception to a new state bill designed to increase security at schools across Texas, according to the district’s agenda.

What you need to know

At a workshop scheduled for Dec. 11, CCISD officials will discuss and take a vote on an item related to House Bill 3, which, among several new security measures, requires school districts to have an armed security guard at each of their campuses during school hours, or come up with an alternative plan.

CCISD’s board on Dec. 11 will vote on a good cause exception, which is a carve-out in the bill designed to help school districts who are either struggling to meet the financial requirements of the bill, or the personnel requirements, such as the number of officers needed.

Several other school districts—both in the area, such as Pearland ISD and Alvin ISD, as well as across the state—have already approved such exceptions.

Also on the agenda

The district’s board will go over standard reports, such as those from human resources, and discuss the district’s overall goals, according to the agenda.

There will also be an opportunity for public input at the beginning of the meeting, according to the agenda.
