Clear Creek ISD finds missing purse from 1959 in floorboards of renovated building, searches for owner

While renovating an old League City School building, Clear Creek ISD found an unintentional time capsule: a purse thought to be from 1959.

The city of League City converted CCISD’s oldest school building into a new community center. During construction, the purse and its contents were located beneath the stage area.

Based on the photos and journal entries found in the purse, League City officials determined the owner is a person named Beverly Williams who lost the purse in 1959, according to a press release.

“The purse was full of what looked like a wallet, and it turned out to be a diary,” said Richard Lewis, vice president of the League City Historical Society, in the release. “Picture it as today’s Facebook: You’re putting everything down. She wrote about her love life, who she broke up with.”

Lewis said in the release that photos in the purse lead officials to approximate Williams’s age to be 76 years old and that she is the youngest of four sisters. The release states some of the items indicate some connection to CCISD, but the district was not able to find record of Williams and her family.
