Clear Creek ISD approves academic calendar for 2026-27 school year

Clear Creek ISD students will start school Aug.12 after the board of trustees approved the 2026-27 academic calendar at its Dec. 16 meeting.

The details

The approved 2026-27 calendar closely mirrors the previous academic calendar.

According to district documents, scheduled breaks for CCISD include the following dates:

• Fall break: Oct. 9-12
• Thanksgiving break: Nov. 23-27
• Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1
• Spring break: March 8-12

Student holidays include the following dates:

• Labor Day: Sept. 7
• Teacher in-service: Sept. 21, Nov. 3, Jan 4. and Feb. 15
• Bad weather days: Oct. 13 and April 12
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 18
• Good Friday: March 26

Transition students in prekindergarten, kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades will begin Aug. 11, according to district documents.

Additionally, elementary summer school is scheduled from May 29 to June 22, with May 29 designated as a teacher workday.

The verdict

Two calendar drafts were shared with the District Educational Improvement Committee, or DEIC, and presented to CCISD staff and the community for feedback through a survey, according to district agenda documents.

According to survey results, Draft 1 received 56% support, leading to a recommendation to Superintendent Karen Engle.

The background

According to a district presentation, the 2026-27 academic calendar went through the following process:

• September: initial drafting and discussion of calendar options, and communication with Region IV districts, neighboring districts, San Jacinto College and College of the Mainlands
• Oct. 21: two drafts presented to DEIC, minor changes suggested
• Oct. 27: voting open to CCISD staff and the community
• Nov. 30: voting concludes
• Dec. 3: DEIC reviewed results and finalized its recommendation to Engle
