Clear Creek ISD residents will pay less in taxes in fiscal year 2026-27 than in previous years despite a flat tax rate, due to a steady decrease in taxable value.
Breaking it down
The CCISD board of trustees voted unanimously at its Sept. 28 meeting to adopt a tax rate of $0.969 per $100 of a home's valuation, the same as the previous two years.
Certified taxable values decreased by 2.4% compared to 2025, with residential properties accounting for 54% of the district's total values, according to a presentation at the meeting.
CCISD has a 5% homestead exemption, which lowers taxes for local homeowners but costs the district roughly $10 million in state funding adjustments, CCISD’s Chief Financial Officer Alice Benzaia said.
What they’re saying
Several trustees thanked district staff for their dedication to compiling the district’s budget and recommending the tax rate.
“Our tax rate has not gone up in the last three years,” board member Jeff Larson said. “I think that is an accomplishment, especially considering the inflationary environment we live in, so thank you very much for that.”
Other board members cautioned that the district was not collecting enough taxes to cover necessary expenses.
In August, the board of trustees approved the fiscal year 2026-27 budget, which included a $23 million shortfall, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
“It's an accomplishment, but it's unsustainable,” board member Jay Cunningham said at the meeting. “I’ll just say that.”
