3:30 p.m. May 26: Independent school districts across Texas will be allowed to hold strength-and-conditioning workouts and band practices starting June 8, according to a May 22 press release from the University Interscholastic League, the sanctioning body for academic, athletic and arts competitions in Texas middle and high schools. 5 p.m. May 25: Houston could experience a significant increase in new coronavirus cases in June, about a month after businesses began reopening across the state, according to data from a nationwide study updated May 20 from the PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The study used cell phone data, case count data, average daily temperatures and other demographic information to make the prediction and singled out early-to-open areas of the United States, including Texas and Florida.
