Galveston County has reported an additional 222 coronavirus cases since Aug. 8, bringing the total case count to 9,605 as of Aug. 11.
More than 5,000 of the cases—about 53%—are currently active, according to health department data. No new deaths were reported Aug. 11, but two were reported Aug. 10; the Aug. 10 deaths were the first reported since July 27.
There were 8,825 total cases in the county at the start of August, marking an 8.8% increase over the course of the month. The highest single-day number of recoveries since mid-March—334—was reported Aug. 11.
Galveston, League City and Texas City all have more than 1,500 confirmed cases as of Aug. 11. More than 70% of the cases confirmed in Galveston County have been reported in patients age 50 and younger.
