Three new water wells at XS Ranch will start pumping from the Simsboro Aquifer in May. Located along SH 95, the city well field will consist of a total of four wells.
According to the XS Ranch Final Review memorandum, the wells are estimated to produce 6,000 acre-feet per year of water for the city.
The wells are set to be fully online in January 2025, Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo said.
The new wells will help increase Bastrop’s current water capacity, Carrillo said.
“Because of the number of developments and the number of water treatment plants that we are creating every single month, water is becoming a more and more valuable resource. Not just to use, but to the other water providers in the area,” Carrillo said at the Oct. 24 City Council meeting.
Looking ahead
Aqua Water, the area’s rural water provider, is not prepared to serve the density of new development, Carrillo said.
“When you tell people we're going to Stage 1 ... people use more [water] because they're trying to save their yard, and they don't really understand what that's doing to the wells around here,” Carrillo said. “It is actually dropping them significantly.”
