New free scavenger hunts for children at Bastrop Museum

The Bastrop County Museum and Visitor Center offers free scavenger hunts for children to explore Bastrop’s history. This month, the museum welcomes a new indoor scavenger hunt throughout the museum exhibit.

Scavenger hunts are open every week Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. through November.

Participants can pick up a scavenger hunt sheet at the Bastrop County Museum and Visitor Center then follow the clues around Bastrop's historic downtown.

Inside the Bastrop County Museum, children can participate in the Museum Scavenger Hunt, following clues to identify historic artifacts. The museum is free for children under 12 with an accompanying adult.

The inspiration

“These scavenger hunts give parents and guardians from around the area the opportunity to engage with their children in free and fun educational activities,” said Gloria Perkins, manager of the Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center, in a news release.

Participants will be awarded a small prize with the return of a completed search sheet to Bastrop’s Visitor Center desk.

“These scavenger hunts are ideal as a year-round activity for individual families and groups,” Perkins said in the release. “Boy and Girl Scout troops, homeschool groups, and others can come in and earn badges and credits and [have] fun.”
