In search of an event to kick off Memorial Day weekend, Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center events director Nancy Wood and volunteer Stacy Solorzano decided to host a beard and mustache competition. The first among a weekend of Yesterfest events, the competition will begin at 8 p.m. on May 24.
Fake mustaches will also be available for female attendees, Wood said.
What to expect
Mustache competition categories include most creative, best old-time mustache and crowd favorite. Best ginger beard, longest beard and crowd favorite are the categories available for bearded competitors.
