Bastrop ISD broke ground on its 10th elementary school July 28, a campus planned for the SilverLeaf neighborhood near Highway 71 as the district prepares for continued growth moving into western Bastrop County.
The details
To celebrate the beginning of the construction, the groundbreaking ceremony brought together community members, project partners, and members of the BISD Board of Trustees and district leadership. Board President Chris Dillon reflected on the significance of the moment and the community’s dedication to investing in public education.
“Today is about more than turning dirt—it’s about the future,” Dillon said. “Every scoop of soil represents new classrooms, new friendships, new opportunities, and thousands of those ‘aha’ moments students will experience throughout their academic careers.”
As the last project in the voter-approved 2023 bond series, the school is expected to open for the 2027-28 academic year and is the fourth new elementary campus the district has allotted within five years.
“We are a large, 433-square-mile district, and this project is another step in that expansion serving in the SilverLeaf community,” Evan Moilan, BISD Executive Director of Communications, said.
What's next
The school will provide increased bandwidth to support future growth while creating a modern environment that inspires learning and supports student success, district officials said.
“These projects are part of an effort to plant schools in communities when we can,” Moilan said. “I am deeply thankful to the community for working with us to pass these bonds and to support the growth across the county and BISD in efforts to help these kids’ futures.”
