Bastrop families looking for a pet can help
Bastrop County Animal Services clear the shelter July 5-31, when adoptions for dogs and cats will be $20.

Those interested can browse available pets online and call the shelter at 512-549-5160 to arrange a time to visit.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Officials said every adopted pet will be:
- Spayed or neutered
- Microchipped
- Vaccinated, as appropriate by age
- Dewormed
- Started on flea prevention
- Started on heartworm prevention
- Heartworm tested, if ages 6 months or older

Bastrop County Commissioners Court approved a $314,000 expansion of the animal shelter in December.
Lyndsey Schroeder, executive assistant to Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus, said MRI Builders will finish sealing and painting the kennels before moving on to the installation of kennel panels, gates and more.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, she noted.
Lend a hand
Officials said fostering is another way to help. Foster parents care for orphaned puppies and kittens who need to be bottle-fed or are not yet fully vaccinated, or fully grown pets who just need a place to stay until a rescue is available. Those interested can fill out the foster application online.
Other ways to help include volunteering or ordering items from the shelter's Amazon Wish List.
