The 18+ facility project is making progress after the Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees approved the project's design development.

The gist

The new facility will house the district's adult transition services, or special education 18+ program. According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, transition services are outcome-oriented activities meant to prepare young adults for post-school life, tailored to the individual's needs, preferences and interests.

The 18+ facility design features several elements, including:
  • Faculty spaces
  • A simulated living environment
  • A life skills classroom
  • Outdoor learning spaces
The simulated living environment will include a kitchen, laundry facilities and home-like bathrooms to prepare students for adult or individual living.

“It’s designed with flexibility in mind,” Jessica Molter from PBK Architects said. “We know the students have different needs, so you want to be able to flex with them as well.”

The cost

The project is funded by 2023 voter-approved bonds, with $3.41 million allocated for this project.
Looking ahead

Molten said they expect to break ground in January and for the facility to be operational for the 2026 school year.
