Torchy’s Tacos will open new South Austin location this fall

Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos will open a new restaurant in the Southpark Meadows area this fall.

According to Edible Inc., which is handling public relations for the taco chain, the company has leased a space at 8601 S. Congress Ave., Austin, adjacent to The Oaks at Slaughter H-E-B near the intersection of Slaughter Lane.

Gabriela’s will have a grand opening celebration March 28 at its new Southpark Meadows location at 9600 S. I-35, Unit B500, Austin. The South Austin store is the second for the restaurant. Gabriela's was founded by Gabriela and Arturo Bucio in downtown Austin in 2018 and has a menu featuring tacos, tortas, ceviche and specialty dishes.

Austin ISD graduation ceremonies on track to be held in person this spring


One year after all graduation events were held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said the district is on track to host in-person graduation ceremonies this May for the class of 2021.

Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox announced March 25 that the city of Lakeway will host a drive-thru vaccination clinic March 27 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center on Medical Parkway.

The Round Rock Express have released home game times for the 2021 season. Opening day is set for May 6 at 7:05 p.m., when the Express will face the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Dell Diamond, according to a news release.

For a traditionally male-dominated field, Adrienne Morris, president and CEO of Little Proposal Shop, a federal contracting business that specializes in project planning and proposal management, said there has been a significant uptick in women getting involved in federal contracting in the last 10 years. There are now more women CEOs and high-ranking executives in the field than when she first entered it, she said.
